Hurricane Harvey Relief

Hurricane Harvey Relief

Hurricane Harvey has brought an unprecedented onslaught of rain to Houston. Residents throughout the city are being forced to their roofs, seeking boat and helicopter rescue. Our own Dan Strange, U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, is working rescue operations tirelessly, and we salute his service and his bravery.

We are praying for Houston and for the health and safety of everyone affected by the storm, as well as the men and women working on rescue operations and the relief effort.

We are also asking for donations to Global Giving’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Giving is easy through the Global Giving website. In addition to your donations, Crew Fitness MOB will donate 50 cents each time you check into Crew on Facebook or geo tag us in your photos on Instagram. Use the hashtags #hurricaneharveyrelief and #checkinforcharity with your post.

Dan and Marcia’s home did not flood; they do have power; and they are safe. We are thankful for their health and for Dan’s service, and we pray for Marcia's peace of mind as Dan presses on fulfilling his life's calling - a true hero, rescuing our fellow citizens from their flooded homes. Show them support with your check-ins and give them a shout-out when you make your posts!

In Honor of Baby Lucy

In Honor of Baby Lucy

Sweet baby Lucy Lynn Brannan lived 89 precious days with her mother, long-time Crew member Jodi Brannan. Lucy was diagnosed with a rare condition called congenital diaphragmatic hernia before she was even born. Jodi and her husband David found the best doctors in the world to treat this condition, and Jodi relocated to Philadelphia at 6-months pregnant to give Lucy her best chance at life. Her family here in Mobile helped David care for their two other children, Caden (8) and Carter (2) for the remainder of her pregnancy, as well as throughout Lucy's precious little life.

Lucy survived an experimental in-utero surgery, and was born on March 25. Every day presented new challenges, but Lucy continued to surprise her doctors and her family. In the end, after fighting for 89 days in the the Nic-U at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Lord called her home on June 22.

We have prayed for this family and this baby, and we will continue to do so as they lift their baby up to her eternal home in Heaven. Crew Fitness will be accepting donations for Jodi and her family as they cope with the loss of their child, as well as the burden that being displaced for months has left on their family. All contributions will go directly to the Brannan family. Come by Crew anytime this week to make a donation.

Jodi - your Crew of support is bigger than you’ll ever know.

Much love,
Crew Fitness

3 New and Awesome Additions to Our Team

3 New and Awesome Additions to Our Team

Crew Fitness is excited to welcome Cindy Taylor, Madison Perry, and Emily Higdon to our team of coxswains. A coxswain is the person on a Crew team that calls instructions and power strokes for the rowers in a boat. At Crew Fitness, our qualified instructors earn the title coxswain as they direct us toward our fitness goals.

Cindy comes to us with 16 years experience in the fitness industry, teaching cycling, among other fitness experiences. After taking her class, one Crew rower described her like this: “She seems sweet, but she’s a firecracker!” Cindy will make it her mission to see to it that you get a great workout in each of her classes. Cindy describes her approach to nutrition as MODERATION, MODERATION, MODERATION. She says, “diets are temporary but moderation is forever.”

Madison earned her degree in Kinesiology at the University of Alabama. She grew up in gymnastics and cheerleading, and she has coached 2 special needs cheer squads. One Crew class, and Madison was hooked! She also says that Crew has quickly increased her endurance, and that anyone looking for a new and exciting way to work out should come straight to Crew Fitness!

Emily earned her degree in exercise science from the University of South Alabama, where she played softball on scholarship. She also rides horses and works at the Blue Gill. She says Crew has inspired her to take her own fitness to a new level, as she trains for the upcoming Spartan race!

Our Newest Coxswain: Mandy Cunningham

Our Newest Coxswain: Mandy Cunningham

Fitness changed Mandy Cunningham’s life. She didn’t begin her fitness journey until she was 29, when she began Crossfit. As her love of fitness grew, she commited to clean eating, and experienced a weight-loss transformation. She’s living proof that we can take control of our health and our bodies, and she’s passionate about motivating others to lead a healthy lifestyle. Coxswain is the person on a Crew team that keeps the team in sync and motivated to work to their full potential. Crew Fitness coxswain is a natural fit for Mandy Cunningham!

Mandy has lost 45 pounds since she found fitness!

Mandy has been rowing with us since we opened, and we are excited to bring her on as an official Crew Fitness coxswain. A full-time emergency room nurse, her schedule is tight, so we take her when we can get her! Rowing with Mandy will leave you feeling uplifted, motivated, and inspired!

Teens can start anytime, and then monthly dues will come out on the same day each month for as long as the teen participates. Welcome Dan Strange!

Welcome Dan Strange!

Meet Stacy Barber!

Meet Stacy Barber!

Stacy Barber rowed the first-ever Crew Fitness class in Carrie’s backyard with a boombox and 5 children running all around us. We are honored and excited to formally announce Stacy as a Crew Fitness coxswain, even though she’s been coaching here for months.

Stacy believes fitness is a vital aspect of health and happiness, right after food, water, and air. She ran her first marathon in April, and she’s hungry for more. In fact, she’s currently training for a September Ironman 70.3! Stacy uses rowing to cross-train her strength and endurance for all of her other fitness.

On top of her full-time office job, Stacy also coaches a running class at the YMCA Downtown Branch.

Her greatest accomplishment to date is her 4-year-old daughter Presley. Presley attends St. Mary’s Catholic School, but she would run the place if they would let her!
